Morning Report 17 Apr 20: ASX set for lower open as investors await Chinese growth figures

US sharemarkets ended firmer on Thursday. Shares in Boeing fell 8.0% and weighed on the Dow Jones. Shares in the plane maker fell as rival Airbus said it was examining requests to defer deliveries in response to weak travel demand. But shares in Amazon rose 4.4% and Netflix rose 2.9% in response to higher demand for deliveries and greater demand for streaming services respectively as people were forced to stay in their homes. The shutdown in New York City was extended to May 15. The Dow Jones index closed higher by 33 points or 0.1% after being down 293 points. The S&P500 index rose by 0.6% and the Nasdaq index gained 139 points or 1.7%.
