The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy is warning Ireland needs to clean up its act when it comes to being seen as a facilitator of corporate tax avoidance. There’s mounting pressure from the EU to crack down on regimes that are seen to enable massive tax avoidance. On Thursday the European Parliament voted for plans to create a single, clear and fair EU corporate tax regime. The vast majority of MEPs supported two reports. The first was the “Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base” (CCCTB) which is part of a wide-ranging proposal to create a fair EU corporate tax regime. The second report creates the basis for a harmonised corporate tax system known as the Common Corporate Tax Base (CCTB). Here’s Matt Carthy.
