Give ’Em All You Got: The Story Behind ”Play it Like You”

In one of his last lucid moments, my dad whispered advice that has shaped the way I live and make music: “Give ’em all you got. Don’t hold back. Be stubborn. Be open-minded. You’re at your best when you play it like you.”

This episode of This Unfolding Life tells the story behind my song Play It Like You—a song written in the months after his passing. It’s about legacy, grief, and the freedom of becoming your truest self.
