London, England, 1888 - Whitechapel is a neighborhood of abject poverty, and the Autumn of Terror brought forth the first modern serial killer, known to history as Jack the Ripper, who murdered at least five women. This episode sets the scene, and tells the life stories of Martha Tabram and Mary Ann "Polly" Nichols.
