Morning Report 5 Oct 20: US sharemarkets fell on Friday but rose on the week

Technology shares fell the most with investors favouring defensive positions. Stocks pared losses after the White House provided reassurances that the US President was not incapacitated. Stocks received a boost after House speaker Nancy Pelosi said a stimulus package for the airline industry was imminent. The Dow Jones index fell by 134 points or 0.5%. The S&P500 index lost 1.0% and the Nasdaq index fell by 251.5 points or 2.2%. Over the week, the Dow Jones rose by 1.9% and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq both lifted by 1.5%.
