Market Close 9 Jan 20: ASX moving back towards record territory on easing Middle East tensions

Investors seemed to put Middle East tensions behind them with the ASX 200 index within touching distance of a new all-time high at its best levels of the day. The benchmark index still closed 56pts or 0.83% higher at 6874 as tech, telcos and health stocks led improvements. Energy stocks were the main laggard as oil prices eased.
