US sharemarkets were mixed on Monday. The surge in oil prices, supported energy stocks. The S&P Energy sector was the top performing sector, lifting by 0.6%. Exxon mobile rose 2.1% while Chevron rose 0.9%. Lockheed Martin declined 2.4% after Donald Trump tweeted that the company's F-35 program and costs were "out of control". Other defence stocks also lost ground, with the industrial sector down 0.4%. At the close, the Dow Jones index was higher by 39 points or 0.2%. The S&P 500 index was down by 0.1%, while the Nasdaq lost 32 points or 0.6%.
