1 John 2:15-17 What Holds Your Love

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

(1John 2:15)

Idolatry is alive and well in the world today. Although we think we are civilized beyond this ancient form of worship we simply substitute pride, position, relationships, and religion for the little statues of old. This is because we have within us deep longings that God made and called good, and since the fall we have been trying to fill those longings with anything other than what God intends: Himself. When deep longings turn to depraved lusts we have lost the essence of love, and this is far too easy to do.
