But, the history of the American Legion goes back more than 50 year to well nearly 100 years. Formed in the wake of World War 1, American Legion posts were popping up all over the country when hundreds of World War 1 veterans working in the various factories in Kewanee were called to join the American Legion. The Legion found their home in various meeting spaces over the years until 1971 when plans began for the Legion to build their own building. It got off to a rocky start on construction, as our friend Dave Clark explains on the latest edition of Kewanee Back When, but today, the Kewanee American Legion Post 31, is a staple of the Kewanee community.
