In 2019, Samantha Perlman became the youngest woman to win a seat on the Marlborough City Council in Massachusetts. She had already been active in promoting voting rights and other important issues, but, with some encouragement, she saw that if she wanted to get into politics, then she should run for office herself.
In this episode, we talk about the dynamics of local politics and how people view issues down ballot differently than just Democrat vs Republican. Samantha talks about how her plans for office took a turn after the COVID-19 pandemic and how she continues to stay engaged with her community. Local government is where the most important connections are made and it is the perfect place for younger voices to make an immediate impact.
