Fr Robert Nixon OSB has translated "The Devil's Bagpipe", a biography of Martin Luther originally written by one of Luther's contemporaries in the mid-1500s.
Far from the saintly portrait propagandized today, this books reveals the true motives for Luther's objections to indulgences, his bad temper and vitriolic tongue, his nocturnal conversations with demons (whether they were real or imagined), and his scandalous and degrading bouts of drunkenness and debauchery.
