In Lum & Abner #146, “Lum Decides to Become a Lawyer,” fresh off his courtroom success, Lum catches a case of legal ambition. Convinced his clever use of evidence in Squire Skimp’s trial qualifies him for the profession, Lum launches his own law firm—Eddards, Eddards & Eddards (never mind that he’s the only Eddards involved). With no training but boundless confidence, he takes on local “cases,” including collecting a $1.25 corn debt and helping a neighbor sue over garden damage caused by a rogue horse—who turns out to be Lum’s own. This hilarious episode captures Pine Ridge’s brand of legal drama, where good intentions meet comical chaos.
Cast:
Chester Lauck (Lum Edwards), Norris Goff (Abner Peabody), voices of supporting characters including Grandpappy Spears, Dick Huddleston, and Cedric Wehunt
