The Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune says she and her other party colleagues will work together to try to secure Mairead McGuinness’s nomination for the European Parliament’s presidential elections. Ms McGuinness yesterday confirmed she will contest the elections. The Midlands North-West MEP is now canvassing for support within the European People’s Party group, the EPP which Fine Gael is a member of. They’ll vote in December for the candidate they want to run for the election on their behalf. And then the entire Parliament will vote in the European Parliament’s presidential elections in January.
