Ger Gilroy: Episode 84

Ger Gilroy is one of Ireland's most recognisable names in sports broadcasting. This week he gives a very rare insight into his life and the journey which has seen him at the forefront of Newstalk since its inception in 2002. Ger talks about his time reporting in Haiti, starting Ireland's first ever nightly sports show just weeks before it all kicked off in Saipan, falling in and out of love with his work and how he found out that he was losing his job at Newstalk in the Irish Times.

 

Ger speaks honestly about never fearing for the future of Second Captains while giving his version of events as to how to the lads parted ways with Newstalk, his reluctance to return to current affairs broadcasting, the impact breakfast radio had on his life, why he believes radio is disposable, his desire for a 24 hour sports station in Ireland before giving his thoughts on the current state of Ireland and the gay marriage referendum.
