Morning Report 18 Jun 21: US sharemarkets were mixed on Thursday

Technology shares were out-performing on optimism for a quicker-than-expected economic recovery. At Wednesday's Federal Reserve meeting more policymakers brought forward their expectations on the timing of rate hikes. Shares in Apple rose 1.3% with Microsoft up 1.4% and shares in Amazon rose by 2.2%. But energy shares fell 3.5% with financials, materials and industrials all lower. The Dow Jones index fell by 210 points or 0.6%. The S&P 500 index lost less than 0.1%. But the Nasdaq index rose by 122 points or 0.9%.
