The Great Commision & the The Great Commandment

Jesus calls his followers to both The Great Commission (go and make disciples of all nations) and the Great Commandment (love God above all else and love your neighbor as yourself). All too often, Christians have followed one and not the other; or in practice one versus the other. What goes wrong when we don’t keep both central to our faith and why is it imperative to follow both?
