God is delighted to deliver his people. He raises up a powerful leader to prepare the way for God's king. That leader's name is Samuel. But like many significant figures in the Bible, Samuel had a miraculous birth story. His mother Hannah could not have children and she bore the deep anguish and pain of this cycle of childlessness.

However, she is an outstanding model of how to handle our agony and disappointments, and indeed how to enter the process of seeking deliverance.

We are likewise to follow her in pouring out our hearts to God, and seeing our own cries for deliverance on the background of God's big picture of ultimate deliverance - through his own Son.
