The altar has always been a special place.  It is a visible meeting place of devotion of people to God, usually with the offering of some form of sacrifice. Altars become a standard item in people’s worship of God.  This is a pattern that holds true to the present day.   Even though the Old Testament sacrificial system has ended, the altar concept remains.
