Morning Report 17 Dec 19: Fresh record highs for Wall St as confidence lifts

US sharemarkets hit record highs on Monday. Upbeat Chinese economic data and strong US homebuilder data propelled shares higher. An hour before the close of trade, the Dow Jones index was up by around 130 points or 0.5%.
