Jesus never promised His people freedom from suffering—in fact, He promised suffering for His name. In His letter to the church in Smyrna, He prepares them for the cost of faithfulness. Yet to those who endure with Him, He offers what the world can never take away: the crown of victory and the gift of eternal life. That unshakable hope is what carries the Church through the fire.
