The Christ of Christmas; Mary’s Faithfulness

"The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. ...'I am the Lord’s servant,' Mary answered. 'May your word to me be fulfilled.' Then the angel left her." - Luke 1:35-38

 

When I read this passage in Luke, I can't help but be in awe over Mary's faith. Here is a teenage girl who sees an angel…is told that she will bear a son! It must have been quite a shock! But Mary responded in great faith; and the world received the greatest gift — a Savior, Christ the Lord. The truth is, all humans are sinners; we cannot save ourselves. But Jesus became flesh and dwelled among us; and his birth, perfect life, death, and resurrection has given us a way to be forgiven.
