Canadian shares traded modestly lower on Monday. Commodity prices were mixed with oil up and gold down but financials were firmer. The Toronto composite index was down 0.2% in afternoon trade.

US sharemarkets were closed on Monday. Last week the Dow Jones rose by 2.1%, the S&P 500 lifted 2.3% and the Nasdaq gained 3.4% - the best weekly gain since February.
