In the interim, audiences did get their Nolan fix albeit it in a mediocre performing period piece about warring magicians, but no one saw coming how massive a success The Dark Knight would be! Raking in over 1 billion dollars at the world-wide box office, at the time this was Nolan's biggest budget, widest release, greatest critical acclaim, biggest opening weekend and it garnered eight Academy Award nominations! Today, IMDb members have rated this the 4th greatest film of all time! But, 12 years later, does this dark take on the caped crusader hold up or has the cultural phenomenon worn off?
