Precious Jewels Of The Blessing Part 6 Numbers 2:22-27 We are focusing today on verse 27 This Priestly Blessing is a microcosm of the Gospel itself and at the end of it, The LORD says: “So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them” (Numbers 6:27) What we have in this passage is not only a blessing but a naming ceremony. As these words from The LORD GOD Himself are pronounced on the people, Yahweh Himself puts His own Name upon His own people. A name represents the person and the totality of their identity. Our name is not tangential to our being. It marks us and identifies us. Over time, as people get to know us, our name embodies who we are. So when The LORD GOD puts His Name on His people, it is something deeply personal. GOD's Name can not be separated from GOD Himself. This blessing is meant not only to give you GOD's blessing of His Presence but for GOD to put His Name and His blessing on the life of each of His own people. He claims each of us as His own. This goes with what The LORD said to His people Israel earlier in Exodus 19:5-6 If you have trusted in Messiah Jesus C, Father GOD wants you to understand that you belong to Him. You are not your own. He has written His Holy Name on you as one of His own people. You are part of His treasured possession. The first question of the Heidelberg Catechism says this: Q. What is your only comfort in life and death? A. That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ. Before telling the people of Israel that they were His treasured possession, GOD reminds Israel what He accomplished to make them His: “You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself” (Exodus 19:4). The LORD Himself delivered them from slavery in Egypt and defeated the Egyptians. We were freed from slavery to sin and death at the price of Messiah 's own blood. 1 Corinthians 6 says, “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). The fact that we belong to The LORD GOD isn’t just something for us to enjoy. It’s something that the world is supposed to know about. Deuteronomy 28:8-10 outlines all the responsibilities that come from our relationship with The LORD , and one of them is the responsibility to represent Him well in the world by obeying him. When we bear His holy awesome Name, we have a responsibility to act in such a way that brings Him glory. This is what the third commandment means: “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain” (Exodus 20:7). We often think this is just about blaspheming GOD's Name, but it is more than that. What we do represents Him. See Matthew 5:16 1 Peter 2:9 Placing His Name upon His own people speaks of Covenant Identity with a marking of ownership, protection, and responsibility. In Scripture this begins with Abram renamed Abraham (Genesis 17:5) and culminates with believers sealed “with the name of His God” (Revelation 3:12). The Blessing is The LORD GOD's covenantal claim over His people, imparting identity, security, and destiny. The Aaronic priests spoke the Blessing as intermediaries; Christ Jesus is The ultimate High Priest (Hebrews 7:24-25),and He embodies it through His atoning death and physical resurrection. Every believer now has direct access to The Name (John 14:13-14). His Name is above every name. See Philippians 2:5-11. Numbers 6:27 defines divine blessing as GOD's authoritative act of placing His own Name upon His covenant people, thereby guaranteeing His continual presence, protection, provision, and peace through priestly mediation ultimately fulfilled in the resurrected Jesus /Yeshuah The Christ / Messiah.
