In this episode Constitutional Lawyer Leighton Grey and Rick Ducharme have a conversation about the events that transpired leading up to Canadian Natural Resources Limited imposing their vaccine mandates resulting in hundreds of lost jobs, what the oil and gas giant did in respect to allowing room for exemptions, and why Rick’s efforts to file a Human Rights violation was such a difficult process.
Rick Ducharme began working for Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. as a mechanic, eventually being promoted to foreman. Rick spent the last 15 years working for the oil and gas giant making roughly $150,000 a year, plus benefits and bonuses until he was fired for refusing to take the COVID 19 Vaccine.
The 55-year-old, who lives in Bonnyville, AB, a community north of Edmonton where the majority of the people make their living from CNRL, either directly or indirectly says he loved his job and how close to home it was making it easier to spend time with friends and family.
CNRL is a massive oil producer, with more than 9,000 employees around the world and its value just surpassed $100 billion for the first time. But, it's also facing a revolt from staff who wouldn't get vaccinated. Many are suing for lost wages and benefits, in some cases demanding well over $1 million each, reflecting the high salaries common in the industry.
Ducharme says he was offered his job back but won't take it. He says he no longer trusts the company and will find work elsewhere. "I have my skill set that they can't take away, and I have my ambitions that they can't take away and I will find a way to proceed," he says.
Ducharme and Grey take some time to talk about the process that the wrongfully dismissed employees went through to try to protect their jobs all in vain, how Ducharme was blacklisted from working for someone else, and what Rick and his fellow wronged employees plan to do to make things right.
