Preserving Rare Books Through AI and Collaboration

AI proposes several ideas to help Non-ARL libraries, which are research institutions often lacking resources compared to larger libraries, better manage and provide access to their valuable rare book collections. The central concept involves creating an AI-powered platform with multiple features. This platform would allow librarians to collaborate and get assistance from an AI chatbot trained on rare book information, digitally catalog books using their phone cameras, contribute their expertise through audio interviews to enhance the AI's knowledge, and ultimately, make their collections discoverable to the public, even allowing for donations to support book preservation. Additional ideas include offering curated digital access to specific collections and creating AI-generated audio content like oral histories based on the books.
