Genesis 31:2-3
And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him with favor as before. 3 Then the Lord said to Jacob, “Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred, and I will be with you.”
Its been 20years since Jacob sought refuge at Laban’s home. While he found a place to rest, it was a thorny bed of deception, dishonesty & denial. Its been 20years since Jacob’s first visit to the ‘house of God’(Bethel). While he found stones to rest, it was a rocky bed of Providence, provision, and promise. Our mortal masters may not always deal fairly with us, but our service is first to an ever-present God who always deals mercifully with us. Jacob and his nation of wives, children, servants, and flocks undertake a stealthy escape; it's interrupted by a reconciliation banquet.
