Peter Bogdanovich

HCC film professors Marie Westhaver and Mike Giuliano devote this podcast episode to film director Peter Bogdanovich, who recently passed away. He is most famous for "The Last Picture Show" (1971), a critically acclaimed drama set in a Texas town in the early 1950s. A commercial hit, it was quickly followed by two more successful films, "What's Up Doc? {1972) and "Paper Moon" (`1973). Marie and Mike reflect on the reasons why Bogdanovich's directorial career then went into a tailspin of flops. They also talk about his work as an actor, including in the TV series "The Sopranos," and, crucially, his valuable work as a writer whose books celebrated an older generation of directors including Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks and Orson Welles.
