How to Collaborate with Your Shadow

Have you ever considered that you can collaborate with your shadows to help you live your highest and best life?

We all live with the shadows of judgment, fear, shame, regret, guilt, resentment, and more. Yet we can learn to access the gifts they present us.

Noemi Grace shares how she has been learning to collaborate with her shadow:

Recently on my morning walk, I noticed my shadow reflected on the ground beside me. As I observed us walking together, I said, “I thought I was moving faster than this. Can we pick up the pace?”

I accelerated and as I walked, I looked for my shadow to confirm that I was walking more quickly. When I saw glimpses of it, I said, “We’re doing great.”

Then I had a thought, “I’m collaborating with my shadow! What if I do this with the other shadows in my life?”

A few days later, I caught myself thinking about how I wished I had done something differently years ago.

I kept thinking, “If only, I had spoken up. I might have been able to help them back then.”

And I started to feel guilty. But this time, I remembered my recent collaboration with my shadow.

Instead of staying in the guilt zone, I embraced the guilt and looked at it lovingly. I realized it came from a deep desire to help the people I love.

I saw the beauty of my heart in the reflection of guilt. This surprised me and freed me from wallowing in guilt.

Yet without embracing the guilt, I would be stuck in a destructive self-blaming and self-shaming downward spiral.

How beautiful it is to collaborate with our shadows and see guilt and other shadows with eyes of love.

We all can and must learn to shine our lights to see our shadows. Then we can learn to collaborate with them and feel the blessings offered by our shadows’ gifts.
