US Close 6 Sept 16: The Aussie market set to open weaker but all eyes on the Reserve Bank

* US financial markets were closed on Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

 

* European shares were mixed in quiet trade on Monday. Energy sector shares rose in response to a higher oil price. But the region's banking index eased. The broad pan-European STOXX 600 index rose by 0.1% to 8-month highs. But the German Dax was down by 0.1% while the UK FTSE lost 0.2%. In London trade, shares in BHP Billiton rose by 0.9% while Rio Tinto ended flat.
