Today's guest is Prof. Saree Makdisi and he is a Palestinian-Lebanese professor of Comparative Literature at UCLA and a specialist in 18th and 19th century literature and contemporary Arab politics and culture. Both of his parents were prominent scholars at the American University of Beirut, and he is a nephew of the late great literary scholar Edward Said. Prior to teaching at UCLA, Prof. Mack-disee was an associate professor at the University of Chicago.
