Be the sign

In Matthew 2:1-12, the writer sets up a contrast between the 3 Magi and King Herod. They want to worship the Christ Child. He wants to kill a competitor and threat to the crown. At  the center of the story is the sign which brought on these events. It was a star that was so unusual as to attract notice and motivate the Magi to undertake a long and perilous journey. Pastor Barbara Moyer Lehman asked us to consider what it is that motivates us to do whatever it is we do. Using two examples from her own family, she asked us to consider what we are being called to do as individuals and as a community. Using the gifts we have been given, we can be a sign of God's Kingdom - signs of hope and promise - just like the star was a sign in Matthew 2.
