Always forgive. Never forget

In the parable of the unmerciful servant, which Jesus told and which was recorded in Matthew 18:21-35, the point seems to be that we are to forgive completely and always. Pastor Phil Kniss reminds us that a commonly quoted phrase is "forgive and forget". He went on to say that we simply cannot forget. Forgiveness does not imply that the perpetrator does not get held accountable. But forgiveness can be offered even while consequences are administered. "To forgive is what Kingdom people do!" We let go of a need for revenge and embrace the power of God. this new power is one which allows us to let go of anger and resentment. God has forgiven us the debt we owed, which was huge. We receive this forgiveness and pass it along to others.
