In Eph. 5:25-27, Paul is speaking about husbands loving their wives, but Paul uses the love that Jesus has for His church, as an example of the way that husbands ought to love their wife, if they are allowing the Spirit of God to have control over them. The love that Christ has for the church is the standard against which a man's love for his wife is to be measured. However, this message is not about marriage, it is about the church. We are so used to reading through this passage focusing on the subject of marriage, that we can sometimes miss the other truths that are contained within these verses. So today let’s focus on these verses from a different perspective, a more unfamiliar perspective. Let’s concentrate instead on what it reveals to us of how Christ loves the church, and let us pray that not only will our minds be informed by the word, but that our hearts will be transformed by the word.
