Were the elite SEAL Team forces that crashed in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter earlier this month sent on a rescue mission or were they sent simply to implement a hammer and anvil operation? Media Chief for US Central Command (CENTCOM), Major TG Taylor joins Secure Freedom Radio to examine the investigation, led by Army Brig. Gen. Jeffery Colt, being conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Major Taylor believes that the important findings of this investigation is not whether the troops were conducting a rescue mission, but rather to capture the lessons learned in order to protect future troops from the same fate. In his generic assessment of the situation in Afghanistan, the crash neither reflected the troops’ lack of assets or the Taliban’s gaining success in the region. Rather, Taylor argues, the troops understand their purpose of being in the country and the exact significance of properly training the Afghan national security forces. These forces, likewise, are responding in supportive and professional manners in order to ensure the success of our mission in the region.
Next, Former UN Ambassador and Senior Fellow at AEI, John Bolton expresses his worries that the base line $500 billion in cuts for the upcoming fiscal year will have immediate and staggering consequences for US national security. These cuts will both embolden the malicious ambitions of our enemies and weaken our ability to defend ourselves abroad. Ambassador Bolton also calls for the Tea Party to recognize the serious threat that these cuts will have for the safety and well being of Americans across the globe. The budget negotiations failed to protect our security as well as failed to uphold Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution, which outlines the need for strong national defense. Lastly, Bolton discusses the Law of the Sea Treaty and how putting American resources under the authority of an international court is extremely risky business.
Michael Rubin, of the American Enterprise Institute, untangles the messy situation in Turkey where ten percent of the generals are
imprisoned on corruption charges. These imprisonments eliminated the last system for checks and balances on the growing Islamist drive within Turkish leadership. Rubin compares the situation in Turkey to that of Pakistan prior to the 1970s. This dismantling of secular military leaders poses a serious threat to the transfer of military technologies from the United States to Turkey. Furthermore, Turkey has begun to engage in anti-ballistic missile system technology trades with Russia and China.
