Nazareth Jesus and the Temple of Doom

Pastor Roy Hange is co-pastor of Charlottesville Mennonite Church, and is also the overseer of the Harrisonburg District of Virginia Mennonite Conference. As such he is the overseer for Park View Mennonite Church. On this Sunday, Pastor Roy invited us to look at how we have participated in creating insecurity in this world. Repeatedly he asked if we had created a "temple of doom"? In Mark 12:35-13:10, Jesus offers his critique of the temple in Jerusalem, and predicts its destruction. Jesus was able to look at where his faith community was falling short. But Jesus worked to change that. He had a vision for changing the world. With the coming of the Holy Spirit, we also have opportunity to embrace that world-changing power. What is our vision as we view the world around us?
