Letting Go of the Past

A few years ago I lost a good friend to what I am very sure is mental illness. ----more---- He had become abusive, rude and paranoid. I broke off contact with this person a few years ago because it was just too painful for me to talk to him. Anyway, he called me the other day. Asking me to help him fight his latest enemy. I said no. He accused me of being incapable of letting go of the past in order to help him fight a battle against someone he is convinced is evil. The real problem is that every time I talk to him, I’m forced to recognize just how delusional he has become. And once again, I am forced to relive the pain of the loss of his friendship. I wish I could get over that loss, but I still care about him. And ultimately, I don’t want to forget our friendship.
