False Dichotomies

I seriously dislike false dichotomies. When someone uses one, it is either because they are too lazy to think clearly, or it’s because they are intentionally trying to mislead you. ----more---- What is a false dichotomy? I’m glad you asked. It is when someone proposes something to you in an either or fashion. Such as – this is either true or false. The problem is that sometimes something might be only partially true or partially false. Reality contains nuances. I happen to think those nuances are important. If you want to think clearly and critically, you need to know about the nuances of any given situation. So avoid false dichotomies and people that use them. And embrace the fact that sometimes truthiness is a fuzzy concept.
