I want to talk about this today because my book, The Bully Vaccine is causing a lot of discussion.
Most of what I am hearing from people is stories about the pain they endured as children.

It breaks my heart to hear these stories.
It’s the reason I wrote my book.
I was immune to bullying as a child so I have no such stories of pain.
Sure, I was teased and hassled and had people do mean things to me.
But the fact I wasn’t traumatized by what happened to me is ...

I was immune to bullying as a child so I have no such stories of pain.
Sure, I was teased and hassled and had people do mean things to me.
But the fact I wasn’t traumatized by what happened to me is not a result of some innate ability to not take things personally.
I was taught to not take things personally by my mom.
She told me that when people do mean things, it’s because they themselves are in pain and that I should feel compassion for them.
And she was right; bullies tend to be miserable people.
What many people assume is inner strength, is actually, just the power of knowledge.
