Dr John Etherington is a retired environmental scientist, formerly a Reader in Ecology in the University of Wales at Cardiff. His research was focused on the chemistry and physics of the biological environment and since retirement he has spent time investigating the claims made for wind power and other intermittent renewable technologies. His earlier career started at Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, where he obtained a Doctorate in soil water and plant growth. He also served as the Editor of the Journal of Ecology. During his professional career John authored several textbooks including the successful Environment and Plant Ecology that remained in print for almost 20 years.
