0:00 - Sermon: "You Belong to God's Family"
Romans 8:12-17 (Rev. Mark C. Wagner)
Intro: When the debt is cancelled we delight in moving forcefully toward our destiny. Our obligation is not one of self-advantage but rather of self-denial, because we now live in a new home.
Part 1. Welcome to a "debt free" life.
- You are no longer a slave to sin.
- Disobedience must be identified and the sin nature crucified.
- The Spirit creates what the Father commands.
App: Through the teaching of the Trinity we learn how charitable God is. He doesn't just wish us well, he trades us out for his own Son! Jesus goes into "debt" for us to pay for our adoption into his Father's family. That's a mighty powerful welcome!
Part 2. Wake up every day to a delightful journey.
- Our new life puts us on a new route, determined by the Spirit.
- There is new found freedom in our intimacy with the Father.
- We know our Dad will always find us and help us.
App: What a difference between a child who has complete assurance and one who wakes up every morning wondering if or how he'll make it.
Part 3. Walk in the confidence of a destiny beyond.
- Our inheritance comes from his safety deposit box in heaven.
- Our confidence puts us into a perfect frame of mind.
Conclusion: We've been transformed by our invitation to join in his harmony of family. God does not and will not lie. One look in the mirror confirms it: we're not alone while traveling through this land of terror, he's right there with us.
