In Isaiah 6:1-8, Isaiah was totally over-whelmed when he encountered God. Owen Burkholder, Conference Minister for Virginia Mennonite Conference, likened this in a small way to his response to watching an action movie in 3-D. But for Isaiah, this was no movie. God’s glory was over-whelming. In John 3:1-17, Nicodemus recognized that something special was going on, and he was prepared to give credit to God. Pastor Owen, often speaking to our high school graduates who were being honored, pointed out some of the characteristics of God. First, God is awesome beyond our imagining. Second, God wants a relationship with us. Finally, god desires for us to be a part of what God is doing in the world. The Holy Spirit will assist us as we join in God’s work. And engaging in this work will bring us to a life of worship, gratitude, and service.
