Free and Independent

Tomorrow is Independence Day in the USA. My son is very excited. ----more---- To him, this day is all about the fireworks. For me, being a more reflective sort, I like to think about what exactly it was we were declaring our independence from. It wasn’t just about the price of tea. Our founders wanted freedom. Of course, they didn’t really want women of blacks to be free, but whatever. I don’t hold that against them. Because, despite their limited vision, their choice of words continues to inspire people to fight for their rights to this day. We are all created equal and of right ought to be free and independent. There is nothing more that needs to be said.
