On this first Sunday back in our newly renovated and extended building Pastor Hamish Wishart taught from Nehemiah 8:1-18 on the joy of the Lord being our strength. He spoke of how the Israelites had a passion for the Word of God and how we need that in our day too. As Ezra read and expounded the Word that day after the walls of Jerusalem had been rebuilt we noticed the people lifting praise to God, listening to His Word, learning from that Word, and then lifting praise to God again. The encouragement for us today was to lift our praise to God for his leading and guiding, and for his faithfulness to us in these days; and also as we take possession of the building to remember and keep God's Word central to all we do.
