Father tom Koys is sitting in for Father Anthony Bus' along with Cristina, Tony and Andrew, an altar server at St Stan's who is about to go to St. Mary's College in Minnesota. Father Koys talks about Mexico and the Mexican-American War. Father Tom talks about the issues surrounding that war: slavery, religion and property and that being a Catholic and patriotism are not necessarily mutually exclusive. The South wanted the Mexican land to create slave states, the Texans had their own ideas as well. We look back to see where we are today. We see that Christianity is a moral force. the Mexican refugees need to think of themselves as refugees fleeing a corrupt government and not only here for economic opportunity otherwise they are no different than the Conquistadors.
