In praise of salty saints

In ancient times salt was a rare and expensive commodity, essential for healthy living. In the Old Testament, salt is associated with covenant. Pastor Phil Kniss looked at Mark 9:38-50 and explored the salt saying found there. Jesus says to have salt among yourselves and be at peace with one another. Pastor Phil suggested that this "saltiness" is not about salty conversations that flirt with the profane, nor is it salt which preserves by killing that which is alive within us. Rather it is a slat which brings life, which protects the weak and the children. It is salt which adds life. It brings life like James describes in James 5:13-20. A community of "salty saints" has zest and vigor. It is a community that is open to change, open to the missional urgings of God's Spirit
