1. God's mercy gives us hope through the redemptive work of his Son, Jesus Christ (v. 3)
a. New birth is a gift from our merciful God. (John 3:1-21)
b. Our new birth was accomplished by the redemptive work of God's Son Jesus Christ
i. Not only His death on the cross,
ii. But also His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 4:25, 1 Corinthians 15:17-19)
c. Our new birth gives us a living hope!
2. God's mercy Provides the hope of an eternal, heavenly, unshakable inheritance (v. 4)
a. We have an inheritance, because our savior Jesus Christ died for us.
b. As those chosen, redeemed, and called by God, our heavenly inheritance can never be taken away. (Matthew 6:19-21)
c. As exiles in this world, we need to be reminded that our eternal inheritance is a treasure that far surpasses anything that this world can offer. (Matthew 13:44-46)
3. Our eternal, heavenly inheritance is secured, because God's mercy preserves us through His gift of enduring faith (v. 5)
a. Our eternal, heavenly inheritance is secured by God's infinite power. (John 10:27-30)
b. God's powerfully preserves us by mercifully granting enduring faith. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
c. Our eternal, heavenly inheritance will become ours at our final salvation at the last day. (1 Corinthians 1:18, Romans 13:11, Hebrews 1:14 Romans 8:22-25, 1 Thessalonians 5:9)
