I taught an online course last month and one of my students, Josephine, mentioned that:
“Humanism matters because it is a way to balance our own needs and the needs of those around us!”----more----
Achieving balance in life is difficult.
We do have to balance our needs against the needs of others.
Who we choose to feel responsible for dictates whether we are a selfish individual or a compassionate one.
Part of the benefit of self-labeling as a Humanist is that the term serves as an active reminder to not be selfish.
Selfish people are rarely happy.
Selfless people rarely are either.
The key is to find a balance between your needs and the needs of others.
How do you get that balance right?
