Either we have to loosen our moral standards, and/or we have to admit that we aren’t as moral as we should be.
Usually both.
Either way, when we suppress our compassion our sense of self and sense of identity suffers.
Given that who you think you are is so central to how you live your life and whether you hold yourself in high esteem or not, is sacrificing compassion really worth it?
