Heads on fire

“Do we still believe in a God who blows through closed doors and sets our heads on fire?” Barbara Brown Taylor asked this in one of her books. Pastor Phil Kniss said this is an important question. The Spirit’s coming in Acts 2 brought momentous events and transformed lives. Pastor Phil asked whether we believe God can still do this, and went on to ask whether we are open to having our lives changed to match God’s agenda. But was it God’s agenda to give the individuals in gathered in the Upper Room an ecstatic spiritual experience? No. God was giving birth to a new community of the Kingdom of God. God was intending to create a group who breathed in sync with God. That is God’s agenda.
